THEY AREN’T “OURS,” BUT BRING THEM HOME ANYWAY
IRSN Contribution to Reflections Without Borders
6 Apr 2008
Reflections Without Borders is a new periodical being issued monthly by a small
group of revolutionaries looking for a new approach to developing class
consciousness amongst immigrant and native workers in the US. Represented
within the ranks of the group are former members of the FSLN, FMLN, M19, IRSM,
MIR and other revolutionary movements, who collectively draw upon decades of
experience in revolutionary struggle in order to help overcome weaknesses that
have previously led the struggle of the working class to defeat. The following,
brief article was contributed by a comrade of the International Republican
Socialist Network for their next periodical and is written, not for members of
the Left, but for ordinary working people. It is aimed at countering the "Bring
Our Boys Home" style embraced by much of the American anti-war movement,
especially groups such as Winter Soldier.

THEY AREN’T “OURS,” BUT BRING THEM HOME ANYWAY
Did you have a say in invading Iraq? Did you tell the US military to kill at
least 300,000 Iraqi civilians? Did you order the torture of prisoners? Did you
choose to have over 1,000 military bases in countries around the world? No?
Then why do they call these troops, who kill innocent people in countries that
don’t even want them, “ours?” Do US military bases in Iraq, Saudi Arabia,
Germany, Japan, Paraguay, and even Cuba protect you or me? Do US soldiers
bombing civilian neighborhoods in Iraq, Afghanistan, Serbia, or Somalia protect
us? Does promoting prostitution around military bases in Okinawa, Korea, or the
Philippines benefit you or me?
The trillions of dollars spent on brutally bullying the entire world could save
Social Security, provide health care, improve education, and save the
environment for all of us, but instead is spent in ways that make the world
hate America and make already rich US corporations get even richer. We must
demand US troops be pulled out of Iraq, Afghanistan and everywhere else outside
the US, but the first step towards this is ending the lie that they are “our
troops.” They are only the mercenaries of corporate America. Our labors
should create a better life for all, not just wealth for a few.
Don’t let your children sell themselves to kill or die for the rich!
Don’t share in the shame of those who do!
