IRSN: St. Patrick's Day Parade in San Francisco
Mon Mar 16, 2009
The International Republican Socialist Network comrades in San Francisco again participated in the City's St. Patrick's Day Parade this weekend. The IRSN was joined by members of the All-African People's Revolutionary Party, the Peace and Freedom Party of both San Francisco and Alameda Counties, and Socialist Viewpoint, marching in the IRSN's Anti-Imperialist Contingent, carry banners reading "No War But The Class War" and quoting Connolly in declaring, "The Cause of Ireland is the Cause of Labour, The Cause of Labour is the Cause of Ireland." Members of the Anti-Imperialist Contingent also distributed leaflets for the demonstration scheduled for March 21st, against the wars and occupations in Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan.
Behind the marchers of the Anti-Imperialist Contingent was the IRSN's decorated van, which depicted the IRSN's logo and declared: 40 Years After the British Occupation, 10 Years After the Good Friday Agreement, All That Has Been Won is Peace...the Peace of the Grave," and calling for "National Liberation and Socialism in Ireland."
The IRSN's participation in the parade this year drew more positive response than in any year in the recent past, with spectators who lined the parade route cheering on slogans raised against the imperialist wars and in support of class war and saluting with raised, clenched fists.
Following the parade, the IRSN comrades hosted a social with Margaritas, Pina Colados, and Nachos for those who marched in solidarity.
The IRSN thanks our comrades in the socialist organizations that participated in this year's Anti-Imperialist Contingent for joining us and demonstrating their support for the struggles for national liberation and socialism in Ireland.
