Solidarity Message for the Commemoration of the Century Anniversary
Tue Sep 15, 2009
Comrades, a chara, African sisters and brothers,
The comrades of the International Republican Socialist Network, with our roots in over a quarter century in the Irish Republican Socialist Movement and now active in service to the revolutionary movements of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Catalonia, Euzkadi, Puerto Rico, and Quebec, send our warmest greetings of solidarity on the occasion of your celebration of the century anniversary of the birth of that giant of African scientific socialism, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Nkrumah was a revolutionary leader of international stature and while his political analysis and wisdom was primarily directed to the people of the African continent and Africans around the globe, he had much to teach revolutionaries of all nations. In the course of the Irish struggle for national liberation and socialism, we take this opportunity to especially praise his critique of neo-colonialism, with which we have struggled since the 1920s. Neo-Colonialism: the Highest Stage of Imperialism was a ground-breaking and earth-shattering contribution to the international socialist movement, as were so many of the ideas that Nkrumah contributed through his writings and his actions as a revolutionary and leader in Ghana. The murder of Nkrumah was a loss to the whole of the revolutionary movement around the globe.
Through our long work with the All-African People's Revolutionary Party, many of the comrades of the International Republican Socialist Network had the opportunity to meet Kwame Ture, who studied under both Kwame Nkrumah and Seko Toure and was thereby able to impart some of Dr. Nkrumah's analysis and wisdom to us, to compliment that which we had already gleaned from reading the works of Dr. Nkrumah. Through both experiences, our understanding of revolutionary socialist Pan-Africanism was deepened and our solidarity with those who continue to uphold flowered.
We are honored to have this opportunity to express our admiration for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and to renew our expressions of solidarity with all those attending this event.
Forward ever, backward never!
Adh mor,
Peter Urban
