IRSN: Burn’s Night Social
The International Republican Socialist Network comrades of the San Francisco Bay Area invite you to a social and presentation on the current state of the Scottish socialist movement.
Why: To commemorate the birth of Robert Burns 18th century Scottish republican and arguably Scotland’s greatest poet
When: Saturday, January 26th
7:00 – 10:00 PM
Where: 2057 15th Street, B, in San Francisco
(between Market and Church Streets) (415-861-5711 for more information)
What: Food (sorry, no haggis), drink (single Malt will be available), and
excellent conversation with other socialist activists.
In addition, there will be a presentation on the current state of the movement for socialism in Scotland and the growing support for independence in Scotland, drawing upon the experience of local IRSN comrades during a recent visit to Scotland. Among other issues of interest, the presentation will:
• Discuss the growing support in Scotland for independence or, at least,
“devolution max”
• Explore the potential impact of events in Scotland on Ireland’s occupied six counties
• Examine the success of the Scottish Socialist Party in having united perhaps 85% of the Scottish Left into a single party
• Explore the reasons for the split in the SSP last year and the differences between what remains of the Scottish Socialist Party and the new organization born out of the split, Solidarity
• Discuss the difference between Left Nationalism and Republican Socialism in the Scottish context
• Discuss the contributions of the Scottish Republican Socialist Party and Communist Republican Network to the Scottish socialist movement as a whole
Please join us to improve your own understanding of the Scottish socialist movement and the republican socialist analysis, as well as to enjoy an evening of excellent social interaction with other members of the Left.
