Release of Breton Comrades Hailed
26 Nov 2008
The comrades of the International Republican Socialist Network join in celebrating the release of three Breton political prisoners.
Gaël Roblin, Kristian Georgeault, and Pascal Laize were dragged into court in Paris on November 17th for allegedly membership in the Breton Revolutionary Army (ARB) and involvement in the bombing of a bombing of a MacDonalds in Quevert. The three had previously been tried on these same charges at different times and in different courts, but had been called before the court again, because police had no other suspects.
In a surprising display of justice in the French courts dealings with Breton activists, the judge ruled the evidence offerred against the Breton activists was not admissible and ordered the charges against them dropped immediately, after only one day of deliberations.
The French imperialist state, like that of Britain, is an archaic regime and the interests of all working class people living in France, the Basque lands, or Brittany would benefit from the hastening of its collapse. The struggle of the Bretons and Basques against the French state for national liberation and socialism also serves the best interests of French workers, by weakening the bourgeois state with which they too must do battle.
The IRSN applauds the courage and fortitude of Gaël Roblin, Kristian Georgeault, and Pascal Laize, as well as those actually responsible for the action for which they were erroneously charged.
For an independent workers' republic of Breizh!
