IRSN: On the Passing of Peace and Freedom Party activist Tom Conduit
Sun Jan 10, 2010
The International Republican Socialist Network send our condolences to the Peace and Freedom Party on the passing of Tom Condit.
The comrades of the IRSN in the San Francisco Bay Area first met Tom at the PFP convention in 1988, when there was a battle to keep the PFP socialist. While it took a while, and led to the arrests of Gene Pepi and then-IRSC,NA North American Coordinator Peter Urban, the fight was eventually won. Tom was an important part of that fight.
Tom was the embodiment of a socialist fighter for the working class. He was very well-read and talked to and taught any and all. He could discourse on any struggle, any theorist, but he wasn't just an intellectual; he also fought on the ground. He was involved in every struggle, from the Vietnam war onwards. He was there in the streets, at the rallies, on the picket line, on campuses, and street corners.
Even though Tom had health problems, he still came out to help with IRSN comrade Mary McIlroy's campaign for Congress last year and attended the October rally protesting the war in Afghanistan. He was looking forward to working, in the coming months, on wife Marsha Feinland's campaign for US Senate (against Barbara Boxer). He remained active until the end.
We also send our condolences to Tom's wife, Marsha Feinland, his family, and friends. We'll not see his likes again.
